Every November 11 we celebrate the courageous men and women who have served in the military. Veterans day began at the end of World War I and continues today to honor those who have served. The day falls on a Sunday this year and is observed as a federal holiday on Monday, November 12. Happy Veterans Day to all veterans. Your service and sacrifice is invaluable to our free society. Pres. Obama Won the Election Despite Voter Suppression Obstacles
President Barack Obama won the 2012 presidential election despite overwhelming obstacles placed in Democratic voters way to prevent them from voting. Republican lawmakers and GOP suppression groups wanted to take the vote away from minorities and young adults. To the surprise of many, minorities came out in force to show that their vote and voice mattered. Blacks and Hispanics voted in larger numbers than those of 2008. The young adult voters from 18-29 came out to support President Obama in the first election. And in 2012, they came back again, joined by many more who were not able to vote in the 2008 election. Women also came out in support of president Obama. But President Obama lost overall white voters by 15%. Many voters endured long lines and confusing information to vote. I followed one colleague’s journey who was monitoring Florida during early voting. Voters in some black precincts waited to vote on the Saturday before the election from 7:00 PM close time to … [Read more...] about Pres. Obama Won the Election Despite Voter Suppression Obstacles
Pres. Obama Wins Four More Years
After a long day tolling as an Obama attorney advocate to protect the vote in several precincts in Virginia, I came home tired but hopeful. At my precincts, people voted over an hour after the polls closed. I was hopeful tonight that President Obama would be elected. And I was not disappointed when Ohio turned for President Obama. Now we have four more years to complete the job that President Obama started in 2008. Congratulations America for a job well done! From Barack Obama: I'm about to go speak to the crowd here in Chicago, but I wanted to thank you first. I want you to know that this wasn't fate, and it wasn't an accident. You made this happen. You organized yourselves block by block. You took ownership of this campaign five and ten dollars at a time. And when it wasn't easy, you pressed forward. I will spend the rest of my presidency honoring your support, and doing what I can to finish what we started. But I want you to take real pride, as I do, in how we got … [Read more...] about Pres. Obama is Fired Up and Ready to Win
By the time many of you read this, I will be already up and working since 5:30 AM in Virginia as part of the Obama Victory Counsel. Our job is to see that every eligible voter votes and to report any incidents of voter intimidation or suppression. My emotions are high at this time. I value protecting the vote. It is the fundamental basis of democracy. And I am saddened that there are so many forces that are attempting to take away the votes of many citizens. There will be many organizations in full force with thousands of lawyers to protect this historic election. It is historic because we stand on the eve of electing President Barack Obama to a second term. I really feel that the Obama campaign has put together a first class campaign operation—second to none. I mean that seriously. The details in registering voters, calling voters, getting voters out to early vote and finally tomorrow getting voters to the polls on election day has even surpassed the 2008 operation. I … [Read more...] about Obama is Fired Up and Ready to Win
Bill Clinton – Des Moines Op Ed
This article first appeared in the Des Moines Register Op ed page on November 4, 2012 Bill Clinton: Romney wants to undo progress Obama made By Bill Clinton November 4, 2012 Which presidential candidate is more likely to restore prosperity for the middle class and give poor people a chance to work their way into it? To build a 21st century American economy which creates the jobs of tomorrow, reduces our debt and maintains our leadership in the world? To keep leading our country forward to a more perfect union, when there are so many forces working to divide us? Mitt Romney says that the economy is not fixed and if he is elected it will produce 12 million jobs in the next four years. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but that's exactly how many new jobs independent business forecaster Moody's Analytics says will be created if we don't mess up what the president already has done. Romney also says that because the debt is a terrible problem, he will cut taxes for everybody by $5 … [Read more...] about Bill Clinton – Des Moines Op Ed
Mr. Business Romney Has No Business Running for President
Mr. Romney proclaims that he is the next coming of business success for the U.S. He has constantly touted that he knows business and can bring 12 million new jobs to America. In reality, there has been a minimum amount of business leaders publicly supporting Mitt Romney. Of course, there have been private fundraisers behind closed doors where Mitt Romney raised millions of dollars throughout the campaign. There was the now famous one where Mr. Romney spoke about 47% of Americans being freeloaders or “victims” were his exact words. I wonder where is the business support behind Mitt Romney. It is an interesting fact that Romney has not had commercials of air space, TV or radio, with major business leaders endorsing him. A great ad would have been one with major business leaders proclaiming that Mr. Romney can do what he promises. So I did some digging. There are business leaders that are verified as supporting Mr. Romney. I checked out a list of 23 business leaders … [Read more...] about Mr. Business Romney Has No Business Running for President
