Tuesday, September 24, 2013 is National Voter Registration Day. And it’s just as important today as it was last year during the 2012 election. There is not a Presidential election this year but there are many races in the state and local levels throughout the country. And perhaps, today is even more important than last year. This year, the do nothing Republican Congress held hostage by the Tea Party faction has threatened to shut down the federal government if Obama Care ( “The Affordable Care Act”) is not defunded. And they just voted to severely slash benefits for food stamps. We cannot expect the GOP controlled Congress to act on the country’s behalf. That has been shown time and time again. From 50th Anniversary March on Washington to Syria
On Saturday, August 31, just three days after President Obama spoke at the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington and Dr. King’s dream speech, President Obama called for military strikes on Syria, laying out the case for targeted military action against the Syrian regime. As the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington called for Americans to continue the fight for the unfinished business of Dr. King’s dream, a starting point is questioning America’s continued quick stance to move on military intervention and its slow moving or stalled stance for intervention on economic equality for all Americans. Immediately before Dr. King’s untimely death on April 4, 1968, he was meeting with Memphis sanitation workers to fight for a fair living wage.
