
Debbie Hines is a trial lawyer, former prosecutor and legal/political commentator based in Washington, DC. She found Legalspeaks.com, a progressive blog, on law, race, women and politics. She is recognized as one of the most influential and prominent African-American bloggers. She also writes articles and blogs online for the Huffington Post, Women’s Media Center, OpEdNews.com and Peace X Peace.org on the intersection of race and gender in the law and politics. Her article, Why the New Voter ID Laws Will Disenfranchise Women was one of the most widely read articles on the Women’s Media Center. She speaks on hot legal and political topics including local and national headline legal trials. She is frequently featured in the media including on ABC, NBC, CBS affiliates, RT-TV, CBC-Canadian TV, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, Baltimore Sun, the Afro American, USA Today, Black Enterprise, XM Sirius Satellite radio and the Michael Eric Dyson Show. Black Enterprise recognized her along with Donna Brazile and Tavis Smiley as having the best political Tweets. She is recognized as a women’s media expert.
As a trial lawyer, she has won multi million dollar awards representing clients in personal injury cases. She has been associated with several law firms in Washington, DC and Baltimore, MD. Ms. Hines, a former prosecutor, tried felony cases and conducted Grand Jury investigations, including murders, rapes, drug cases, sex crimes, gun violations and economic crimes.
She holds a Juris Doctorate from George Washington University School of Law and a BA from the University of Pennsylvania. She is licensed to practice law before the Supreme Court of the US, District of Columbia, MD and PA. She actively serves the legal community having served on the board of the DC Trial Lawyers, co-chaired the Women’s Trial Lawyer Caucus and the National Bar Association, Greater Washington Area Women’s Division. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
She is a native of Baltimore, MD. In her spare time, she has successfully completed 5 marathons.
